Back Office Reflections: Elizabeth Celebrates Two Years With SIA

Elizabeth Stanley

Anniversaries invite us to pause. Whether celebrating a birthday, marriage, or honoring the memory of a loved one, they offer a moment of reflection. As I mark two years with Spirit in Action, I find myself reflecting on what makes this organization so meaningful to me.

At its core, Spirit in Action operates with a simple mission: raising funds and distributing them across five countries in East Africa through annual grants, small business support, and emergency relief. But in practice, it is so much more than a grant process. It is a community—rooted in God’s promise.

These past two years have given me more than I could ever give in return. With each task, each conversation, and each challenge, I continue to learn.

Every time our board convenes, we begin with prayer—inviting God’s presence and guidance into our decisions. This simple yet profound practice serves as a reminder that our work is more than just strategy and funding. It is built on faith, trust, and a shared commitment to uplifting communities.

Our partners truly embody the essence of Spirit in Action. Through their perseverance, love, and grace, they have shown me what true dedication looks like. They are among the most faithful and committed people I have ever met—tirelessly working to build a better life for their communities while carrying a spirit of hope and gratitude.

The relationships I’ve built with many of our partners go far beyond my administrative role. I have been welcomed into their communities, invited to celebrate their successes, and trusted to walk alongside them through challenges. Their resilience and generosity of spirit continue to inspire and humble me every day.

SIA donors are the heart of our organization, enabling our work through their unwavering generosity and commitment. In a world filled with countless appeals for support, deciding where to give can be overwhelming. Yet, year after year, our donors remain steadfast in their dedication to our mission. Their kindness is a true reflection of God’s Spirit in action, and it is a blessing to witness the profound impact that unfolds when people unite with a shared purpose. From sustainable farming to anti-violence initiatives to youth development, their generosity touches lives in transformative ways.

The greatest lesson I have learned in my two years with Spirit in Action is that being of service is one of the deepest acts of self-love. When we give of ourselves—our time, talent, and resources—we open our hearts to the fullness of God’s love in our own lives. Even the smallest acts of kindness, when combined, have the power to transform the world.
