Program Summary
A 3-Part Documentary Film Series

Healing America's Youth seeks to awaken a nation that has fallen asleep, often caught in the spell of the seductive, destructive, Standard American Diet (SAD). By taking a comprehensive look at the powerful chemicals used in industrial food production and conventional agricultural practices Healing America's Youth looks at the affects SAD is having on the rising epidemics of Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD/ADHD), allergies, obesity, behavior problems, illiteracy, cancer, hormonal imbalance, drug addiction and violence. In Healing America's Youth we will travel to:

  • the National Institute of Health, the World Health Organization, AMA, APA, DEA and other agencies to interview members of the medical community to uncover the pros and cons of the treatments most commonly prescribed for the above mentioned diseases and afflictions. We will review statistics and look at long-term results, potential side effects and societal pitfalls.
  • the fields of conventional agriculture, where farmers wear face masks and breathe oxygen from a tank to protect themselves from the toxic chemicals which are sprayed on the Earth's soil, and on our food.
  • Washington DC where members of the Environmental Working Group will provide statistics which reveal the affects our children face when eating foods grown with pesticides, herbicides, and insecticides.
  • major corporations for a close look at the multi-million dollar marketing strategies focused on the most profitable market segment of our country - the youth. We will find out how these strategies lead to consumerism with powerful demands on families and educators.
  • the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) to interview administrators about how the National School Lunch Program, our government's largest feeding effort, is entangled in a corporate and economic web.
  • the offices and homes of medical professionals, nutritionists and families who have experienced profound healing from most food-related diseases by alternative approaches such as natural and organic foods and natural supplements. Their stories are moving and profound.
  • the Natural Design Institute to learn about natural systems design and sustainable agriculture practices, so effective that children could safely drink the runoff from a field of strawberries.

Healing America's Youth presents viewers with compelling medical and scientific evidence demonstrating that a redesigned food production and agricultural system could rehabilitate society's estranged relationship with food. This reconciliation could also dramatically reduce disease among children (as well as adults), help reverse the rampant disaffection afflicting "Healing America's Youth" and help reverse the unraveling of much of our social tapestry and environmental safety net.
