Simple Marinara

 

 


Makes about 4 cups

Marinara doesn't get any easier . . . unless you buy it ready-made! Use this simple, tasty sauce with manicotti, lasagna, or any other pasta dish.

1/2 cup red or white wine or water
1 onion, chopped
4 garlic cloves, crushed
1 28-ounce can crushed or ground tomatoes
1 tablespoon mixed Italian herbs
1 tablespoon apple juice concentrate
1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Heat the wine or water in a large pot, then add the onion and garlic and cook until soft, about 5 minutes. Add the tomatoes, herbs, apple juice concentrate, and black pepper. Simmer 20 minutes.

Nutrition information per 1/2 cup: 50 calories; 2 g protein; 8 g carbohydrate; 0 g fat; 33 mg sodium; 0 mg cholesterol.
